Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how (we, us, our) collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal data when you use Ejar Check (the Platform). We process personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law No. 24 of 2023 of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and other applicable laws.

1. Data We Collect

  • Account data: name, email address, phone number (optional), and password, which is stored only as a secure hash.
  • Identity and verification data: for verified reviews and landlord applications, images of national ID and lease or ownership documents. National ID numbers, where collected, are stored only as a one-way cryptographic hash, never in plain text.
  • Review content: ratings, written reviews, replies, photos, and the property location (map coordinates and address) you submit.
  • Usage and device data: log data, the approximate location of a property pin, language preference, and similar technical information.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • to operate the Platform, create and secure your account, and publish reviews you choose to submit;
  • to verify reviews and landlord applications where you ask us to;
  • to moderate content, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms;
  • to calculate trust scores and provide search and discovery features;
  • to comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data on the basis of your consent (which you may withdraw at any time), the performance of our agreement with you, our legitimate interest in operating a safe platform, and compliance with our legal obligations.

4. Sensitive Documents and Identity Data

Identity documents and lease contracts are treated as sensitive. They are encrypted at rest, are never published, and are accessible only to authorised administrators for the limited purpose of verification. National ID numbers are stored only as irreversible hashes.

5. Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with service providers who host or process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations, and with authorities or third parties where required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and property.

6. Public Information

Reviews you publish, and, unless you choose to post anonymously, your display name, are visible to the public, including people who do not have an account. Anonymous reviews hide your identity from the public but remain associated with your account for moderation and legal purposes.

7. Cookies and Local Storage

We use local storage and similar technologies to keep you signed in (authentication tokens) and to remember your language preference. These are necessary for the Platform to function.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, and thereafter only as required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Verification documents are retained only as long as necessary for their purpose.

9. Security

We protect data using encryption (including AES-256 for stored files and HTTPS in transit), hashing of passwords and national IDs, access controls, and signed, time-limited links for files. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request to access, correct, or delete your personal data, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, and ask for a copy of your data. To exercise these rights, contact us. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data-protection authority in Jordan under the Personal Data Protection Law No. 24 of 2023.

11. Children

The Platform is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. International Transfers

Your data may be stored or processed on servers located outside Jordan, for example with cloud hosting providers. Where this happens, we take steps to ensure an adequate level of protection consistent with applicable law.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect indicates acceptance.
